Minh Q. Tran · Managing Partner, Mandalore Partners

Further, together.

Triathlon, CrossFit, golf. Three arenas that taught me the same thing: a founder is not judged at the start, but by what they deliver when it gets hard. That is what I bring to every Mandalore partner.

Resilience.

Nobody is born a finisher; you become one, through small sessions, regularly, for a long time. On race day, you do not think about the finish line. You cut the distance into stretches you know you can hold, and you learn to stay comfortable with discomfort. A venture programme works the same way: the launch makes the photo, the duration makes the result.

For you

A roadmap cut into milestones you can hold, and a partner who does not let go in the second difficult quarter.

My path

  1. XSDeauvilleMy first triathlon, started past 50. I could not swim 300 metres without stopping.
  2. SDeauville
  3. MVendômeAmong the very last finishers of the day. One of my proudest moments.
  4. LDijon · did not finishMissed the cut-off, pulled off the course before the line. The kind of failure that stays with you for months.
  5. LChantilly · finishedBack to the same pool, the same bike, the same long runs. 7 h 48 after the gun, the castle behind, fist in the air.
The medal is just the receipt. The path is the product.

Delivery.

In CrossFit, nobody makes a heavy lift on the first attempt. You miss. You miss again. That is where most people stop. Every failure is data: you fix your position and get back under the bar. Discipline beats talent that does not work. Launching a fund is the same: you go through 99 no's to get one yes. We adjust, we go again, we deliver.

For you

A partner for whom failure is data, not an ending: we correct, we relaunch, we deliver.

My proof: my best multiple came from a company I invested in while it was under court protection (French “procédure de sauvegarde”). Exactly where most investors stop.

03 · Golf

Judgement.

In golf, you count your own strokes and play the ball where it lies. A good shot can end in a bad lie, a bad one can bounce well: what matters is the next shot. Growing a startup works the same way: shot after shot, never losing sight of the flag. No referee, no excuses. That is what I look for in a founder, and what I hold myself to: seeing the situation as it is, reading the course, and playing the right shot.

For you

Candid advice, given early, even when it is uncomfortable.

My proof: a fund I did not manage to raise. Rather than force it, I looked at the situation as it was, learned from it, and played the next shot.
